What we use....

Elizabeth....

Elizabeth’s main guitar is a six-string dreadnought
made for her by Paul Standeven who lives near Barnsley.

Although not a guitarist himself, Paul has made some fine
instruments based on the Martin D series.

Elizabeth also plays a Simon & Patrick dreadnought,
an Ozark open-back 5-string banjo and an Ibanez mandolin.

Martin...

We recently took delivery of a new cittern.
Hand built in Scotland by Dave Freshwater
it has a rich, warm tone and a lingering sustain,
 even at this early stage.
We are looking forward to using it in some of our
songs.

We have also just acquired an Eastman 504 mandolin.

It is beautifully handcrafted, carved from solid timbers
and has a sweet, full sound.........

.......and a Paul Hathway M1 Cedar and Mahogany flat-top folk mandolin.

Ayers ASM

Martin mainly plays an Ayers ASM six-string acoustic and uses a Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup.

Both have jointly purchased a Taylor 314ce to allow one guitar to be permanently tuned up in DADGAD to save retuning in between numbers.

Here is our latest addition to the guitar fold!
Bought at a snip in the January sales 2007 it has a mellow tone and
a nice, wide fingerboard. A joy to fingerpick.

Martin Browne Octave Mandola

Martin has just finished building an
octav
e mandola in his garden shed.

It is handbuilt from walnut for the
back and sides, a spruce top and an
ebony fingerboard. (The mandola, that is, not the shed!)

of its construction.]

Both....

Both use mainly finger-picking styles, (just using nails and fingertips), but occasionally Martin uses a light pick.
